Eduard Shiraz
Wine
Kalleske Eduard Shiraz is named after Karl Heinrich 'Eduard' Kalleske. He was crucial in laying the foundations for future Kalleske generations, helping establish the family farm in 1853 and working the vineyard until the 1880s.
The wine is sourced from three vineyards blocks on the Kalleske property, planted between 1905 and 1971. All are dry grown and low yielding.
The fruit is gently destemmed into small open top fermenters, where it ferments with hand pump overs twice daily. After 8-14 days on skins the juice is pressed and filled to new and seasoned French and American oak, where it completes fermentation.
Maturation takes place over two years. The wine is then bottled without fining or filtration.
Rich magenta, Kalleske Eduard Shiraz has inky black fruits, subtle oak complexity and long length. Dusty tannins lend a sturdy structure. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
